“See? It isn’t going anywhere.”

While spending time at a lake in Central Oklahoma, a man’s wife reminded him not to lose his wedding ring. Confident it was secure, he decided to show her just how well it was staying on his finger.

During the demonstration, the 14-karat gold wedding band—set with a diamond—slipped free and disappeared beneath the water.

They knew the general area where the ring had gone in and spent the rest of the day searching, but could not recover it.

A call that evening, a search the next morning

Later that evening, the couple found Ring & Relic Recovery online and called for help. We discussed where the ring entered the water, what they remembered about the loss, and the landmarks that could help define the search area.

We arrived first thing the following morning, entered the water, and began a methodical search of the most likely zone.

Approximately 15 minutes later, the ring was recovered.

A meaningful return at an important time

The recovery brought a lot of relief—and more than a little emotion. The couple is expecting twins, making the return of his wedding ring especially meaningful.

What had seemed gone for good the night before was back where it belonged the next morning.

Lesson from the search

If you know where a ring entered the water, protect that information.

When a ring disappears in a lake or river, the best thing you can do is preserve the last-known location. Note landmarks, approximate depth, where you were standing or swimming, and the direction the item traveled. Photos taken immediately after the loss can be extremely useful.
